Jonathan moved to Perth after finishing 4 years with the United Nations overseas. After landing a fantastic job as a paramedic and finding his feet in a new city: “I just wanted to settle down, do some surfing and meet a wonderful woman, but it was hard, I had been overseas for at least 8 years in total and I felt like a fish out of water, dating in Perth was really hard”. Jonathan’s weekend to Margies turned out to be more than just okay! Introduced to Melissa, an environmental scientist who had been re-located to Perth for research purposes. Melissa remembers the first evening of the weekend “I was new to town, a little bit adventurous and keen to meet somebody with similar interests: travel, sports and committed to helping other people, I noticed him when he pulled into the retreat centre, and made a b-line for him after dinner, he was a bit shy at first, but after a few drinks, he told me of his experiences overseas and where he was at in his life, out of everybody I met that weekend, it was Sunday afternoon and I knew he was the pick of the bunch. After our last night at the retreat and 2 days of surfing, I approached him and he asked me out the following weekend in Perth – It was a fantastic! Since that weekend, we’ve been seeing each other all the time, and are talking about moving in together. Not only that, we made some great other friends at the singles weekend, some people had some good fortune also and it was a great experience to meet other people who you can connect with in a new city…… “
